May I introduce myself with the following?
"I want to know God's thoughts. The rest are details." A. Einstein
When I speak of God, I do so from outside of any religious context because, after all, I do not wish to exclude anyone or to sugggest that any particular group is "preferred" over another. To do so would be both unkind and unnecessary. I believe that all religions are equal. I believe their purposes are to enlighten we humans to God's universal truths, to help us on our paths, in our lives. I believe that they are structured and administered in consideration of all the differing groups, races and times of humanity. I believe that they change, mature and grow in scope in accordance with God's plan and with His blessings. Many have run their courses and faded, yielding to newer and greater realities, and newer "forms" in religion. I will try to suggest explanations for postulations such as the one given below and hopefully we will discover some as yet unknown (to me at least) truths.
There are many profound differences between Earth and "Heaven". One of the greatest of these is the idea of "opposition". Here on Earth we live in constant struggle. Caught between "forces" of one kind or another and their counterparts, we try to keep our equalibribium and poise. Conflicts abound pulling us from all directions and few of us find agreeable, the pronouncements of others. But we all are kindred souls, and God is the Father.
What I would like to do on this website is to explore issues which are important to us all from within the "setting" of this introductory statement. I will suggest discussions of ideas based upon the postings of others found herein. I hope this effort will be welcome. My motivation is simply that I want to continue to learn. I also will use what I learn in a study paper, maybe a book but if the project gets that far I promise to post it on my own site for everyone's comments before I release it.
Thank You, and some comments would be nice...
Jacob

Hi Jacob,
Welcome to EvC!
I believe that all religions are equal. I believe their purposes are to enlighten we humans to God's universal truths, to help us on our paths, in our lives.
How can this be when all religions contrdict each other?

How does this account for the vast, chaotic, impersonal, hostile, universe that streactches out for billions of lightyears beyond our planet? Why would god make all that stuff just for us?
What about all the animals that have gone extinct over millions of years before giving rise to humanity? What's up with that?
Finally, what about ALL the senseless suffering, desease, and other misery that people go thrugh every day? How does that gel with the idea of a divinely ordained path?
Seems go belief is inherantly arrogant. It assumes we are at the center of purpouse.

What if they do?
How can this be when all religions contrdict each other?
Hey mark,
I'm an atheist... but to play devil's advocate who says all religions can't be true? They may all seem contradictory to us, but god(s) is supposedly beyond our understanding. Truth may have a different meaning for that entity(s)....
Yes, I realize this is just philosophical musing (and really has no relevance to the observed world) but it seems an interesting question.
Cheers

Off Topic Folk. Please do not respond to this message. Thanks.

Mini,
I'm an atheist... but to play devil's advocate who says all religions can't be true? They may all seem contradictory to us, but god(s) is supposedly beyond our understanding.
For example, Jesus is either the messiah or he isn't. Judaism says he isn't, Christianity says he is. Both propositions can't be true.

Hi Jar,
In this case I beg to differ re post 7. My reply to mini was on topic, & was merely a continuation of Jacob's idea that all religion was somehow compatible.
