learn? Does a chemical reaction learn to take place? That is the starting point, nothing conscious about it, stuff happens.
and once you had life, it didn't need to learn to do something that was already part of the equation (part of the defining characteristics of life is reproduction).
and once you had life evolution happened.

No, and lo life is written with the same letters following the same grammer.
A complete pedants note but actually:
a. Some life uses RNA rather than DNA, which should count as different letters
b. Not all DNA based life uses the same form of encoding. I forget the exact figure but there are sixteen or so known variants.
