I was raised as a Christian, and became a born-again Christian about the age of fourteen. I was never a creationist, having been raised by two parents with PhDs in Zoology I always understood and respected science. I would probably have been best described then by Materialistic Evolutionist - I believed God created the universe but that he took no direct intervention in evolutionary processes. I became an Atheist after reading the Bible and realising that the God described therein was incompatible with the loving, just God I had always worshipped and believed in. Philosophically, after I had moved on from the idea of Christianity I found that a universe without any supernatual elements was intellectually more satisfying and fitted best with the world I observed around me.
