For July, 2005 (as per previous months):
quote:
Please post your votes for the July, 2005, Posts of the Month here. Include author, forum name, thread name, post number, eg:
Name: Velvet Tongue
Forum: Biological Evolution
Thread: I'm no monkey
Post #: 17
A link to the message, and perhap a SHORT comment would also be nice. But, this is NOT a place to debate the referenced topic - so be nice.
I think that a fairly liberal use of this topic would be a good thing for indexing some nice messages that are otherwise doomed to be lost in the clutter. So, if you encounter a message that seems to say something of special substance, please give it a plug/reference in this topic.
New month, new moderator, same old message and routine,

In response to a challenge, hitchy gives several examples of introductory biology text books in common use that correctly discuss how embryology supports common descent.

A nice description of relativistic motion involving length, time and speed. Apparently there is only one speed: "c".
The speed-of-light is a maximum simply becuase it is THE ONLY SPEED. It just depends in which direction of four-dimensional space it is pointing! You are always travelling at the speed-of-light, just not always spatially.

Not a masterpiece of rhetoric, or a searing critique, but I love the characterisation of the flood story.

I have always been troubled by the phrase "to agree to disagree", but I could never explain exactly what bothered me. Holmes in this post gives a good explanation of when it is appropriate to agree to disagree, namely, two people can agree to disagree when there is agreement on the relevant facts to the discussion, but that the facts are insufficient to determine what conclusion may be drawn.
Man, holmes, you are good!

Man, holmes, you are good!
Thanks, I like your writing as well.
I'm actually kind of proud of my message #77 in the Karl Rove thread as well, if you like my writing in general you might enjoy that one... I even suppress my bad habit of sarcasm.

That's a way to begin, I third the nomination. I'm sure I'll snag bits for future debates.
