Because to many of us who have given it a lot of thought,
the topic has some very deep implications for one's entire world view. It is also interesting to see how certain different character traits seem to align on either side of the debate. This message has been edited by AdminPhat, 06-12-2005 12:10 AM

Performance art is a very tricky thing to pull off well.

The topic "A comparison of character traits between those who can accept the ToE and those who can't" would result in an interesting and lively discussion, I'd bet.
Or has this already been done?

That's not something I've seen. Besides, nearly all my personality traits are fairly obviously shared by one or both my parents, and we are diametrically opposed on the subject... so I'd be surprised if an obvious pattern ever showed up. Then again, something something anecdotal evidence....

I have a hunch that there are certain personality characteristics that tend to be found on one side of the debate as opposed to the other, though there would be complicating factors. I am not prepared to argue the point though.
Still, I stand by my statement that it would be an interesting and lively discussion, with the potential for bannings as it got personal. Seriously though, this wouldn't be a good forum for such a debate in my opinion. I don't know if this thread is off-topic--I guess that is up to William to decide.

You may well be right about that.
I agree that it would be fun to talk about, and that it would probably get personal pretty quickly

What do you mean by "personality characteristics"?

If we consider political alignment, I think it is fair to say that creationists are more likely to be Republican supporters and evolutionists, Democratic supporters. The link between creationists and Republicans is obviously strong belief in the bible. Although it is also obvious we have a few outspoken Republican evolutionists on the site, I suggest this general trend still holds true. It is conservative Republican politicians, after all, who are behind the assault on evolution in the public schools.

quote: I have some doubts about this. While the Republicans undoubtably have a lock on a certain portion of the lunatic fringe, I don't think the Democrats have the monopoly on rationality. Although, seeing the public face the Republicans exhibit these days, I can see why someone would think otherwise.

yeah , i really want to know why there are so many people here talking about the f*ucking topic . see the banner at the top? and the name "EvC" comes from "evolution versus creation." this place is an evolution/biology and creation/religion board, primarily. there's some interesting political debates that go on in some of other forums, but they're usually relegated to here, the coffee house. the main purpose of the board is to debate science and religion.

Maybe it should be changed. Broaden the scope.
