In reading some of the threads here at EvC, I once came across a post citing a long list of religious institutions that supported the theory of evolution. But that was a long time ago, and now I couldn't find it. (I can't even remember which forum the thread was in). Sorry for the trouble, but can anyone please provide that list, and perhaps cite the source/website from which it was obtained? Or any other information regarding this topic?
Thanks!

Pope endorsed evolutionary science
Evolution: Religion: Evolution Revolution
quote:
1996: Pope John Paul II
(Reconciliation)
Pope John Paul II endorses evolution. John Paul II's papal letter proclaims there is no essential conflict between evolutionary science and the world's largest Christian faith. By distinguishing between body and spirit, his predecessor Pius XII opened the door for Catholic acceptance of evolution. Now, John Paul II goes a step further: "It is indeed remarkable," he writes, "that this theory has been progressively accepted by researchers, following a series of discoveries in various fields of knowledge. The convergence, neither sought nor fabricated, of the results of work that was conducted independently is in itself a significant argument in favor of this theory."
You can read the pope's address to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in 1996 here. He endorsed the theory of evolution and that "truth cannot contradict truth."

Re: More links.
And once again, thanks!
(Let this also be an advanced thank-you to anyone else kind enough to provide links. Am getting a bit sheepish about saying nothing but repeated thank-yous.
Not that I don't appreciate it!)
