Re: Indonesia Wants Foreign Troops Out
The following is excerpted from:
Page Not Found: 404 Not Found - :
The death toll from the earthquake and tsunami in 11 countries has topped 157,000 with millions homeless and threatened by disease.
Worst affected was Aceh, Indonesia, closest to the epicenter of the Dec. 26 temblor, where two-thirds of the deaths occurred.
Indonesia reiterated Friday that it wants foreign troops out of the country by late March. However, the United States, which has thousands of forces in the region, said it has not been given any such deadline.
Japan, which plans to send troops to Indonesia and Thailand, said Jakarta's concern was understandable. "Behind this three month limit is (an effort to) treasure their country's existence and respect their sovereignty," said Japan's defense chief Yoshinori Ono. "We must also treat this as important."
