This is the type of topic that tends to get used so infrequently that it probably will get forgotten, and thus get buried deep in the topic pile.
Nice try though. We'll see what happens. Adminnemooseus

My guess on how it happened:
Contracycle posted message 29. Then he decided to do an edit. But instead of clicking on "edit", he used the "back" button on his browser. This got him back to the message creation window, where he did his edit, and again submitted. Thus the two postings. But not a simple double clicking of the "submit" button. I think I may have done this myself in the past. Side note: edit in message 29 noted as being done at 13:27 am (eastern time) Adminnemooseus

I posted first time, browser backed to message prep window, and then posted again. This message has been edited by Adminnemooseus, 12-28-2004 20:49 AM

quote: I don't know if I missed this, or you edited it in as I was preparing my message. The edit times posted seem to be tied to the users preference times. What I see is that message was posted on 12/28/04 at 8:17 pm (which is U.S. eastern time zone time). The edit is noted as being on 12/29/04, at 10:18 am. Would it be a good thing, that clicking on "Submit Reply" would result in a "preview" being opened? This would hopefully help members catch their dBCode errors (which would be highlighted in red).
Or perhaps just a "Submit Reply" blockage, and an automated "preview" if there are dBCode errors? Adminnemooseus

I think you are missing what Ben is trying to point out.
He has, within the subtitle, a link. This subtitle is itself a link, such as at the all topic page. Thus you have a link within a link. Click on one part of the link and you go one place, click on the other part of the link and you go somewhere else. He also supplied a like example within his message. Adminnemooseus

At the board nerve center, one of the reply permissions settings options is:
Admins, supermoderators, moderators of any forum, and authorized users I was going to try to use this setting, to restrict the non-admin posting to the "Great Debate" forum (which only has one active topic). Faith and Jazzns would get special authorization. Problem: I don't know how to set up the special authorization. Is this something that was lost in the software transition? I seem to recall being able to find the method, pre Christmas 2004. The ever fat-headed Adminnemooseus

I think this was a good feature of the old system, that has not yet been incorporated into the new system. Is it going to make a return?
I think it is a good thing, to have a track record of the "Proposed New Topics" process on record and available to the members - A place to see all the proposed versions, and the information on what became of them. It would be very nice to get the processed PNT's removed from the normal topics listings, including the Proposed New Topics index page. Having all the processed PNT's go to the Topic Proposals Archive would do the job, IF those topics would be excluded from display in the All Topics index. Adminnemooseus

An idea to combat a member plastering the board with lots of micro-messages. Also to combat "dog pilling".
Also, to help fight topic drift:When a member clicks the "submit" button to post a new message, it opens a box asking the question Is the content of this message relevant to the theme of the topic (See topic title and message 1)?
Member clicks yes - New message gets posted.Member clicks no - Back to the message creation form, for editing to happen. Adminnemooseus

At the All Topic database I maintain (available via All Topic database available), I have a "Key Words" field. This is mostly my attempt to compensate for vague or misleading topic titles.
Would having such a field attached to the start of topics be a good and useful thing? Perhaps at Search a "Search by Key Word" option could be set up. Adminnemooseus

I am an advocate of replying to multiple messages via a single message, such as in situations where the new message is relevant to the several previous messages.
The problem, of course, is that doing a "General Reply" does not create the links between the reply and the replied to, and also does not enable the e-mail notification system. I was wondering if some new dBoard coding options might be a way to set up a "replying to multiple messages" system. In the body of the message there could be a code like [replyto equals 5], [replyto equals 14] etc., or a [replyto equals 1,14,15,18] (had to use " equals " in place of "=" because the "=5" etc. would not display). The system could be set up to recognise such and then create the "reply to" and "reply from" links etc. An alternative would be a "General reply to multiple messages" button with a place to enter a series of numbers. Maybe such is already in the works for version 3.0, but I thought I'd put the concept out here. Adminnemooseus
