Do you think there will be an October surprise right before the election?
For those of you who do not know what an October Surprise is, it is an event that is orchestrated to cause the election to change.
Here are some of the things I've come by.
WMD's found in Iraq.
Osama bin Laden captured.
A spectacular terrorist attack on US soil!
Voting is suspended due to terrorist threat.
US pulls out of Iraq in October, leaving the UN in charge.

Hi Lam - here's my thoughts from over here.
WMD's found in Iraq.
Surely nobody would believe this now - not even the most gullible Bush supporter (and as far as I can tell they are really gullible) ?
Osama bin Laden captured.
Several of my friends (including one who is an American living over here) have been speculating this since the early part of this year. We've wondered if he was actually captured a while ago and is being kept on ice for the election.
A spectacular terrorist attack on US soil!
Too risky to be orchestrated by the Neo Cons IMO - there's no way of telling which way it would make the electorate jump. Al Queda on the other hand might try it just to prove they can.
Voting is suspended due to terrorist threat.
Followed by suspension of the two term limit and a string civil liberties/constitutional rights maybe ?
US pulls out of Iraq in October, leaving the UN in charge.
Can't see it being organised in time - and more importantly I can't see the UN being dumb enough to agree. Thinking about it only the US has the troop numbers needed anyway - and events on the ground suggest you didn't send enough, especially to begin with.

Confused ? You will be...

I think that if we had captured Osama, it would be BIG news in the mid-east. I'm not sure you'd be able to keep that quiet. So I'm pretty confident he's not been captured. I do think they are probably all working overtime on this task, though.

What will be the most likely October surprise?
Al Franken will make a public retraction of his previous political commentary and become the leading proponent in Bush's re-election campaign.

I don't think that OBL is captured, or terribly close to being captured, because the US military is stretched way too thin as it is. All the special forces units that would be neccessary to get him are probably in Iraq and have been for some time.

None of the above, However...
...gas will reach $60 a barrel and George will have some 'splainin' to do.
(well, okay. We're almost halfway through October. Gas will hit $58 a barrel at least.)
