Bored and looking for some fun riddles. Lots of websites with math riddles but sometimes I'd like a way to ask for hint without getting the whole answer. I'll start us off with a classic. What rule was used to order the following sequence of numbers? 8, 5, 4, 9, 1, 7, 6, 3, 2, 0 Riddle Me This PM1K

That's easy - I didn't even have to cheat. They're arranged in alphabetical order. Eight, Five, Four, Nine, One, Seven, Six, Three, Two, Zero E Fi Fo N O Se Si T Z

Re: Answer one - give one
Well... I've already posted my favorite one (the "Monty Hall" problem) on evc before, so I'll have to come up with a different one... Too bad the topic is "Math Riddles" instead of just "riddles" Hmm...
"Illuminant light, illuminate me."

Re: Another Sequence
Don't have the time (or brains) to check, but my guess is: 2^10 in base 2 2^10 in base 3 2^10 in base 4 2^10 in base 5 2^10 in base 6 2^10 in base 7 2^10 in base 8 2^10 in base 9 2^10 in base 10 Moose This message has been edited by Adminnemooseus, 09-15-2004 04:10 PM

Once I figured out how to do non-base 10 digits, 2^10 in base 9 checks out. I could already do binary, and that checked out too. How about we make a new rule for us math genius wannabes : base 10 numbers only?

Re: Another Sequence
I guess I could let everyone think I'm a number-base genius, but to figure things like this out:
102410 = 60A13 All I need to do is this:
unix% bc obase=13 1024 60A --Percy

I say we rip his tongue out. Re: Bloom County - In one Bill the Cat story line, Bill was in a terrible car crash, and all that survived was his tongue. Oliver cloned a new Bill from the tongue. Now back to the numbers. Moose
