Ned,
I don't think it's odd. I am seeing the situation it grows out of and am trying to get a better understanding of it. Preachers, pastors, evangelists, missionaries use forms of rhetorical persuassion that are aimed at motivating people to embrace a belief. The techniques they use are similiar to marketing and sales technigue. I see that most of the creationist don't seem to have a good grasp on how science is done. They are used to rhetorical debates and very loose evidence. And they just are poorly prepared to deal with scientific arguments. I think they barely understand what is involved.
My interest in this is that it seems like a growing gulf of two cultures or mind sets. I think this forum is a good meeting place and yet I don't really know if a reconciliation is possible or desirable.
This exodus thread has been a rich though at times frustrating learning experience for me.
