I just wanted to make a statement here about being grateful for the things you have and the good fortune to have things be in your favour.
This morning at around 7 am mountain time a fire started in the apartment block my family and I occupy.A car poarked outside ignited for as yet unknown reasons and lit the exterior stairwell and structures above it. I managed to get my family out immediately as well as a friends child whom we had overnight. We also managed to clear the apartment block except for two apartments that were choked with smoke.
Due to the heat here fire doors were blocked open by residents to permit circulation and thus smoke and toxic gases quickly engulfed that end of the building.Kudos to the Edmonton Fire department station #4 crew for setting a record response time of under 5 minutes at a distance of 2 miles.
No deaths or injuries though the 2 apartments we couldn't access had people in them they managed to block the drift smoke at their doorway enough to keep breathing by their window until the fire was out and the smoke vented.
Every day is a gift and no one should take lightly the fact that despite your position on the meaning of it all,as expressed by Brandon Lee in the interview found at the end of the movie "The Crow" when he says "No one knows when the last time they will see a sunrise or a moon set." That is paraphrased but the essence is the same.
Take care of those you call your own and keep good company.

Glad everyone is okay and thanks for alerting and helping the others.
Now find out who blocked the fire doors open and kick some butt.

Thanks folks. It would appear that everyone is okay {other than the owner} and as a matter of fact we are throwing a celebration barbeque on the common deck/play area. All sorts of theories as to the cause of blaze including deliberate setting by the owner {I doubt this}and I suppose the gossip will center around this.
The biggest disruption for me in this was this was the first morning in 3 months where I had a chance to sleep in.No rest for we wicked.LOL

no offense... but I find it somehow ironic to celebrate safety from fire with a barbecue. myself, i'd opt for cold cuts.

HeHe yes I do suppose irony enters into it but this is more a chance for people to vent the emotions they built up from the fear of losing things and get it aired out.I think it makes for better relations with the neighbours.
Unfortunately the fire department has barred access to the common area while the investigation goes on.

wow. coolness on getting everyone out.
we all need to remember the good stuff that happens... you know. the stuff that really matters... and put aside some of these ridiculous meanderings. politics don't really matter, ideology doesn't really matter, religion doesn't really matter, etc. all that really matters is life and breath and those you love.
