Not that it would matter to a highly advanced civilization, but the moon has always been bombarded by asteroids, another factor that would make life on the surface extremely difficult.

Atmosphere pal I meant it as in, the moons surface has been "bombarded" more than earths surface. You know that.

That's exactly right, Earth is a much larger target, however it has an atmosphere. So even though the moon is smaller, everything that heads for it, impacts.
