Re: Software Update Complete
The "light-bulb" icons provided only a very rough indicator of new messages since your last visit, so they've been disabled by turning them all on. A new and more accurate approach will be released soon. --Percy

Do you have cookies enabled for your browser? If you don't, that could cause some problems. Also, you aren't saving login information between visits (longterm cookies). If you want this, go to your profile and enable longterm cookies (it's called "Save your login information between visits"). --Percy

The profile problem has been fixed. Clicking on the profile button was causing a message that you needed moderator privileges. The button now works properly. There needs to be one more improvement before directors, administrators and moderators can moderate both their accounts without relogging in. Right now, the profile can only be modified for the account originally logged into. The linked account cannot be modified. You have to instead logout then relogin in to the linked account. I'm working on a fix, it might be done tonight. --Percy

Re: Finding the first post in a thread
Should have mentioned this yesterday, the bug affecting links to posts in member message lists after the message has been edited has been fixed. Thanks for picking this up - these are the kinds of subtle things that are very annoying, but that few bother to mention. --Percy This message has been edited by Percy, 05-05-2004 08:49 AM

Re: Finding the first post in a thread
There's an Update Member Message Lists item on the control panel. I just ran it and the message lists appear fine now. I also found the bug causing new posts not to be recorded in member message lists. Let me know if you find there are still some remaining problems in this area. --Percy

Re: Finding the first post in a thread
Hi Sylas! The answers are "no", "yes" and "no". "No", because I had already updated the member message lists. "Yes", because webhosting companies limit the amount of CPU cycles you can use per unit time, and when many people just by chance happen to post simultaneously, processes could get terminated in mid-stream resulting in corrupted data files. That's the reason for the links to rebuilding various types of data files. And "no", because the topic approval process didn't cause the problem in this case, I did. Of course, if I haven't really eradicated this bug yet, then we may need to rebuild the member message lists again, but hopefully things are okay now. The datafiles most often affected by preemptive process termination are the search data base files. That's probably because they're the last file updated, and, especially for large forums with lots of threads like Evolution, it takes a long time. --Percy

Re: Finding the first post in a thread
The recent evidence appears to indicate a random and unguided process. Those seeking evidence of intelligent design should look elsewhere! --Percy
