If you ever fell for that rock B.S. in the first place. Can you imagine how that damn thing would handle? A rudder would be useles.

The whole thing is simply a joke.
What is so sad is that by the Bronze Age, sailing and boats were very, very sophisticated. If you move forward to the Iron Age, they were even more advanced. So why would GOD tell Noah, "Hey Noah, completely disregard every thing that works and do it this way". The only possible explanation I've ever heard was that Noah was actually talking to Cliff Clavin, Now I can easily believe that Cliff designed the ARK. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

IIRC, the Ark had no rudder or powerplant, sails, etc. Even a good sea anchor is no protection from broaching on a vessel with as much windage.
Ya know, whatever kinda reminds me of Cliffie. [This message has been edited Bonobojones, 05-03-2004] Reunite Gondwana!

There are Atheists, Agnostics and Theists. There are Evolutionists and Creationists.
I propose yet another order, Clavinists. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Well, ya know Nawm, the ancient Babblingonians used inflated whale penises (can I say penis) as life jackets when they sailed their ahks.

well cliffie did have this to say about evolution:
"Well ya see Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back, that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
http://www.control.auc.dk/~kzoe00/buffalo_alcohol.html In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest operating brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weakest brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers." Well, some of the engineering problems that may be associated with wood ships have been mentioned previously; couldn't an Egyptian-style reed or reed-like ship have been used by Noah to overcome these problems? Wouldn't such a ship absorb stress caused by waves? (see http://www.christianlinks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6880)

waves? how big do you think those waves would be?
Anyway I'd be more concerned with how Noah breathed Steam.....

So, Sage, you are not a literalist at least. You've decided that the Bible was wrong in its description of the ark.
BTW, that URL can't be accessed because you have to register to get in.

Nosyned,
Thanks for letting me know about the link; it was a typo. Try this one: http://www.christianlinks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=688 To address your concern, we don't know what exactly gopher wood was/is. A literalist would have no problem with a reed-like construction material. As for Charles question about the waves, that is a historical question that I do not have the answer to.

Ok - forget the waves - how is Noah capable of breathing steam? that's a straight physics question.

The topic is a boat. I don't think the steam breathing qualifies.
