We ended up with about 8 inches of wet snow yesterday and then some melted off. A couple more inches fell overnight and the trees are all covered again this morning. Our temperature right here is 21F and more snow and lower temps are predicted tonight and all day tomorrow and Thursday and Saturday.
Our resident Anna's Hummingbirds have been freaking out and they are all trying to dominate the 3 feeders we have up. I counted 5 at one feeder and none of them got to feed more than a second before being attacked. Silly buggers!

It's currently -20 F here, expected to shoot up to a high of -18 F today. -31 tonight.
Wind is about 5 mph, which is considered a flat calm around here, so there isn't much wind chill.
It snowed several inches on Christmas day and they're still cleaning that up. At my age, the ice bothers me more than the cold.

Around here they wouldn't know a snow plow from a candy cane. I'm not fond of the cold but I dread falling on the ice.

It's 34F here (and snowing). And I had thought that Oregon was warmer than Chicago.

I don't remember if I've done this joke here before:
When you're little, you slip and fall on the ice and you cry because it's the end of the world. But the end of the world doesn't last long.
When you're school age, you slip and fall on the ice and you say, "Hey, that's fun!" So you keep doing it until your father tells you to stop, "You're making it slippery for everybody else," - and you thought you were doing them a favor.
When you're High-school age, you slip and fall on the ice and you're embarassed. You hope nobody saw that, especially the girls.
When you're grown up, you slip and fall on the ice and you're angry. "Why doesn't somebody put some salt on that?"
When you're old, you slip and fall on the ice and you just lie there for a while assessing the situation. Any new aches and pains? Anything broken? When you do decide to get up, it's an operation that takes as much preparation as D-Day.
And that's how it is until the pallbearers slip and fall on the ice. That would be funny, if you could see it.

Thirty years or more ago I slipped and fell on my parents' icy driveway. I was heading out to do some wildlife photography in the snow and carrying my camera with a heavy 500mm telephoto lens. As I fell I guess I twisted to protect the camera, but I fractured 2 ribs. That pretty much ruined that holiday trip.

We're heading for the warmest New Year's Day on record.
It's 15C here during the day and 10C at night. Bloody ridiculous.

Don't worry.
The warm weather will cause the greenland glaciers to melt, pushing the weakened gulf stream to the south (or have it totally disrupted). Then, things will get colder in the UK.

It will be interesting to see how much effect the record snow pack in the Cascades and Sierras will have on the drought and wildfire conditions that we have seen here in the western U.S. for the past 10 years or so. Here, west of the Cascades, we are getting lots of rain and the local creeks that I monitor for dragonflies have been running just below flood stage for the past month. 4.5+ inches of rain predicted for the first part of this week with 36 inches of snow predicted above 4000 feet elevation.
