Re: Reporting Back.....
Some news but the emphasis was on kids spray painting and breaking windows at the Ritz.

Times change. But the question remains as to whether we can change the times.
Well, I still see no other possible source for change that "We".
Glad you went, glad the cost was as low as it was, hope you can continue to fight the good fight.
I can assure you, from personal experience, that WE can change the times. The problem is to keep We remembering that change is continuous and a few victories do not determine the outcome of the war.
More to the point: Can WE ever agree on the direction to steer the ship, or will WE continue circling the major issues?
I started this topic to bring to attention how MY socioeconomic position is at risk, yet I titled it as a WE issue, because I sought support. You are bringing up the idea that WE can make changes, but do I want the changes that the rest of WE propose?

Are you willing to work to make change?

Do you want to have to work at making the changes, becoming an activist and putting your job and possibly even your life at risk?

The biggest hurdle will be telling and convincing the general public that the next twenty-five to fifty years are gonna hurt a little.
I dont see it happening. The way politicsa operates, one side has a go at it, amidst virtual political deadlock...and then the other side gets elected and undoes half of what was done...pulling futilly another way...and back and forth it goes.
jar writes:
The problem is that until there is an enlightened population with the education and wisdom to take a long term view and also willing to make short term sacrifices for long term gain, I don't see even a revolution doing much good.
All I know is that the way people think, no group will get ahead even if they prepared correctly...all will fail.
jar writes:
No one forced anyone to take the short term position.
Human nature rarely looks that long into the future. It is not worth it to suffer for fifty years simply so that my unknown heirs have a shot.
jar writes:
Is it time for the US to cease to exist? Has it grown too big?
The US is still a great place to live, but we must ensure that our resources support our retirement...otherwise we are suffering for no good reason.
jar writes:

Quite honestly...no. I want Jesus to fix it for me.

The sad part is I really believe you're being honest. You'd rather not do anything about it and desire for a character out of mythology to save you.
You don't see a problem with that?

Re: Are you willing to work to make change?
all that im saying is that im not willing to be a martyr simply for a future group of people. Maybe this is a character flaw, but Im already mad that the economy is broken right when i need to retire....why should i give up everything I have for my grandkids?

If you had grandkids you'd probably know the answer to that question.
If you had read the New Testament you'd probably know the answer to that question.
You probably know the answer to that question; you just don't like the answer.

Fine. But that's a bit different than saying you want Jesus to fix it.

Do you have grandchildren? I think you're being a drama queen. I'm sure you're not being asked to give up EVERYTHING.

LOL....true. I just get worked up when I read jars posts on this topic...he always cryptically blames everyone for not having the wisdom and foresight that we the people should have. I simply overreact and rant about why the heck I should have to be so honorable and insufferable just to fix the problem(for fifty years, mind you)

Re: Are you willing to work to make change?
But your posts show the same lack of wisdom I mention, the "Not my job" syndrome and "Let the butler Jesus fix it".
I don't blame everyone , rather folk like you.
Why should the future generations pay for your retirement?

Re: Are you willing to work to make change?

It's good work incentive.
Plus, a strong social security and retirement system ensures plenty of open jobs for young people.
I can't think of reasons why young folk would not want a good social security system unless they are just plain stupid and ignorant.

Well; I'm a young fella.
But suppose I were older. It would be in their interest for me to retire so they can have my job. It's better to have a job and a paycheck that partially goes to funding someone else's retirement than to have no job or paycheck at all.
