Still, for me, the court’s opinion that

is a wrinkle that will have far reaching ramifications.
The wrinkle that interests me is that the Civil Rights Act is not a constitutional amendment. Congress can change the CRA if they want. If conservatives don't like this ruling then they can propose a bill that explicitly takes away protections for LGBT employees. They can go to their constituents and campaign on the issue. However, Republicans probably know what we already know. They would lose seats and influence if they followed this path.
A recent Gallup poll question:
"As you may know, there has been considerable discussion in the news regarding the rights of gay men and lesbian women. In general, do you think gays or lesbians should or should not have equal rights as non-gays or non-lesbians in terms of job opportunities?"
Yes, they should -- 93%
No, they should not -- 5%

Re: Trump Is An Idiot
And Pence is not much better. Pence is trying to attribute the increase in Covid-19 cases to increases in testing. While that can happen, the rate of positive tests should drop (since those with the highest risk should get tested first)
In Arizona the rate of positive tests is increasing.
Also, hospitalisations for Covid-19 provide another check. They’re increasing in Texas, North Carolina and Oregon.

Re: Trump Is An Idiot
Testing simply shows reality. The people infected with Covid-19 are there even without testing. In fact testing MUST understate the actual number of infected folk.

Wow. That ruling is a bit unexpected. I’ll bet that some of the usual suspects are a bit, uh, butthurt.
Gorsuch and Roberts strike me as more egalitarian than Alito and Kavanaugh.

Bolton’s book
The Trump administration has gone to court - late - to try to prevent the release of Bolton’s book.
They claim it includes classified material. Is it a coincidence that Trump claimed that all conversations with him are classified? (Nope, it isn’t)
I really hope they try that line in court.

Re: Bolton’s book
And it’s even sillier than I thought.
They want the court to make Bolton tell the publisher not to proceed even though the books have already been printed and ought to be in distribution by now (and maybe even in storage at bookstores - it’s not unknown for books to go on the shelves early).
At this point they should be trying to get an injunction against the publisher. That they don’t makes it look like an attempt to appease Trump by seeming to be doing something to stop the book getting out - without doing anything that would stop the book getting out.

And the Justice Department employee who signed off on the law suit, the head of the Justice Department’s Civil Division that defends presidential administrations in court, Joseph H. Hunt announced that he was leaving the Justice Department after a twenty year career on July 3.
No reason given but it was about three hours or so after filing the lawsuit.

Stephen Colbert held up a copy of Bolton's book on his Monday night show. You can preorder it now at Amazon: The Room Where It Happened

Re: Bolton’s book
Amazon pre-orders really don’t mean much.
Anyway I skimmed the complaint.
The complaint is that Bolton didn’t get the necessary sign offs and National Security is endangered. Supposedly the government only found out a week ago.
Which really raises the question of why they’ve taken a week to launch a case which is likely to be completely ineffective - is the publisher really likely to listen to Bolton at this point? If Bolton really decides to publish without getting a sign-off is he going to give the order?
I almost wonder if this is a pay-off. Bolton keeps the really damning stuff out of the book and in return the DoJ makes a presence of trying to get it banned.

Once the review copies go out it is pretty meaningless to try and stop the book from reaching the general public. It would appear that news outlets already have the book in full, and are honoring the publisher's embargo date on good faith. If the DOJ tries to stop publication then news outlets will just report on whats in the book. It seems rather silly on the part of the DOJ.

looks like a smooth reelection for trump. the human genocide party (Democratic party) are doing everything they can. unfortunately they nominated a geriatric with a speech impediment and no understanding of personal boundaries.
Bolton's lies are a cherry on top. no one is corroborating him. the bush era warhawk may have singlehandedly gotten trump reelected
plus the fascist Chinese got a resolution against their onslaught of the uyghyrs. so thank you Bolton. you're a useful idiot.

It’s so encouraging to see certifiable loons endorsing Trump :-)

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Are you guys maligning loons? I think they are pretty nice waterfowl, and you shouldn’t be comparing them to just any old thing.
