I just saw the (now closed) thread about Buzsaw. This is sad news.
As so often with memorial gatherings, that discussion also gave me the opportunity to encounter a number of old friends again. It's great to see everyone. I trust you are doing well.
When I wanted to add something, Percy said the best thing was just to launch a new thread. Maybe we can expand things a bit here and make this a thread for anything that qualifies as reminiscence.
If I may now, I must remove my hat.
Farewell, Buz. I will miss you.
My favourite thing about your posts, I confess, was your confidence that creation paleontologists exist: that these serious professionals are out there as we speak, digging up fossils and naming species, publishing research and making discoveries. If only anything of the sort were true. Still, I found it oddly touching that you really did seem to believe it.
More seriously, I note from Phat's remarks that you served your country as an airman. I never take it for granted that as we go about our business each day and rest on our beds each night, others are watching radar screens, making patrol flights, and undertaking dangerous sea voyages to make it possible. This really happens, and it happens because of lionhearted people like you. Many thanks, sir.
A good name is better than precious ointment,
and the day of death than the day of birth.
It is better to go to the house of mourning
than to go to the house of feasting;
for this is the end of everyone,
and the living will lay it to heart.
Ecclesiastes 7.1-2
