Hi All, I'm new to the forum - v. interested in the debates going on here, although some of the biochemical ones are a slightly beyond my ken My personal position is atheist evolutionist (creation-denier?), very much in the rational mould but given that I'm no hotshot in paleantology (that includes being able to spell it! ), biochemistry, biology et al my purpose here is more to learn (from both sides) and provoke debate than to impart any pearls of wisdom of my own That said, the first thing I was wondering is that there seems to be much debate as to whether archaeopteryx was a transitional form or not. What do the folks here think? PE [This message has been edited by Primordial Egg, 11-08-2002]

Hi Prime, Since creationists will simply deny the possibility that archeopteryx is a transitional, perhaps a pertinent question would be; What would you expect a transitional fossil between birds & reptiles to look like? Mark ------------------ Occam's razor is not for shaving with.

In Monteverde? Costa Rica has a southern subspecies ( P. m. costaricenses). Once you hit north-central Nicaragua through Guatemala etc you get the northern subspecies ( P. m. mocino). I've got incredible video tape of a flying male quetzal, and of a nestling from Cerro Kilambe Biological Preserve (Nicaragua). I love those birds.

If thery're so cool, maybe we could see some pictures? I for one didn't know that animals called "Quetzals" actually existed (I thought they were mythological beasts as well as maybe certain pterodactyls?) Of course, the amount of stuff I don't know is quite a bit.

I'm not sure where it is exactly. I do know its in the cloud rainforest next to a volcano (its name has something to do with mountain of death?). My knowledge has been streched to the extreme on its locatio, mainly because I've never been there. The summer after next I'll spend 9 weeks down there studying. In adition to any research that I do, I'll be setting uup a new platform. The reason I've been tasked with this is because of my expertise with vertical and horizontal rope systems (it helps to be an avid vertical caver). Its like a dream come true.
