So take a public vote on same-sex "narriage" and see what you get. What could be more democratic than that? But DON'T tell me that a minority opinion has special rights just because it's an opinion. These things are basic, folks. Why are they so difficult for perfectly intelligent people to grasp? Denying inheritance rights is an opinion? Denying someone the right to donate blood is an opinion? Denying someone access to health care is an opinion? Denying someone access to equal protection under the law is an opinion? ”Hoot

Taz asks:
quote: I'm still here, although I don't come around often anymore. I chose to answer your question because I know some people in my own life are asking the same thing about me. I've narrowed my list of friends down a bit since the whole gay marriage thing erupted, as I've become much less patient with anyone and everyone who argues that there's anything at all sinful or immoral about a person's sexuality. If you think about it, there no argument possible that isn't insulting and demeaning, and I've grown weary of being insulted and demeaned. I try to stay away from it for the most part. In some ways I think I've got it better than a lot of people, in that it's easy for me to tell who my enemies are. When you surround yourself with only open-minded people, you find there's much less stress in your life. Sleep comes more easily. In other ways it's not so good. I have no relationship to speak of with my dad anymore, for instance. As sexuality is discussed more and more in public these days, he's retreated more and more into a fundementalist christian fantasy world, and I simply can't do more than exchange forced pleasantries when I see him these days. I went through all this at age 19 when I came out. It's like I'm going through it all over again, only this time I've become much more intolerant toward willful bigotry and stupidity. You know, I never realized just how much I used to put up with racial bigotry from white friends and family. I guess I just chose to ignore it, but my experiences of the past few years have forced me to recognize it. W.W.E.D.?

There must be some reason other than bigotry that prevents the gays from marrying each other. You feel free to tell us what that reason is any time you feel like it, Ralph. While you ponder, perhaps you could explain how it works around that pesky equal-treatment-for-all-citizens thing. That being said, I know it's hard to think of valid ways to legally strip a minority of rights, and still claim you're not a bigot. Feel free to take another five or six threads to mindless repeat your previously stated nonsense while you come up with something. "I know some of you are going to say 'I did look it up, and that's not true.' That's 'cause you looked it up in a book. Next time, look it up in your gut." -Stephen Colbert

Well, they are opinions of the general public, at least, and also the opinions of the legislatures and courts of this "bigoted" country of ours. Do those count for anything? Well no, they are not opinions. An opinion would be "It is okay to deny rights." The actions though are NOT opinions. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

quote: Er, low testosterone in men doesn't "turn you gay". If anything, they would like the smell of your testosterone, since they like men.

I guess I just chose to ignore it, but my experiences of the past few years have forced me to recognize it. That's a tough row to hoe, Berb. If it helps any there's a lot of us who think it's pretty much bullshit that anybody has to live with that.

Actually I doubt it is Ralph. He sounds more and more like Cliff Claven.

Berberry, may I sincerely ask you a relevant question? In all due resepct, could you tell me if you chose to be gay, or was it deeply embedded in you somehow, over which you had no control? A biologist might ask, Was it in your genes? I would value your answer.

The MAJORITY opinion has no bearing on right and wrong. quote: "Majority rule" does NOT apply to our Civil Rights. The Bill of Rights exists to, "protect the minority from the tyrrany of the majority." I guess when you were so busy being taught to sit up straight in your uniform in school, they forgot to teach you Civics.
