I might, but it would bode ill for my career. As much as we love to talk about fighting for freedom, you speak badly of the boss and the military leadership takes it very poorly. Remember that general who got booted for talking about Clinton? Yeah, that was a Democrat president. I guess it all comes back to that line about sacrificing freedom to protect freedom. I always found it a little suspicious - like shooting yourself in the foot so you can run faster. I think my thread is already entering the terminal drift phase. Maybe I'm just being too nice to really piss anyone off. Nice chatting, regardless. Back to work.

It is good to hear from you and I wondered where you had gotten to.Little did I think it was the other side of the planet. Such is the anonymity of these forums.I hope the insurgents maintain their accuracy and let us know when you rotate back ok?

Hi,Zeph, when Leonard Woolley excavated Tell el Mukkayer, he hit the jackpot. In the royal cemetery, remains of over 2000 bodies bedecked with gold and silver artifacts
were uncovered. With the penchant for hauling everything home that bedevilled early archaeology, I`m not sure how much finished up in Iraq. Maybe a fair bit was repatriated later. The Iraqi Museum had it on display till that looting episode occured. While much was recovered, I think that over 12000 items are still missing. Still, the museum should be worth a visit. Keep your vest on and your head down. :-) Here are a few vintage pics of the original excavationsThe Royal Tombs of Ur - Story#

And Marcos/Lysimachus if you want to dispute that please go to the correct thread. I'm ready and waiting. Perhaps it would be best, since it would be on topic here for you to refute Marcos's post here.

Don't be silly. The topic is the city of Ur. It is neither Moller's book nor is it ancient Egyptian history. Discussing the evidence against the Wyatt/Moller rewrite of Egypts 18th Dynasty is obviously not on topic in this thread.

But the reference to the book was in reference to Ur which is on topic, was it not?

The original reference to the book was presumably on topic. My indication that the book was unreliable because of its treatment of Egyptian history is therefore also on topic. Discussion of the dismal handling of Egyptian history in Moller's book is, however, not on topic as I said.

I count only one reference to the book in this thread. The reference is concerning the Ur/Urs. Can you refute and show there is indeed, only one Ur? Moller's claims as set forth by Marcos appears to have some merit. I don't know. I'm asking for your reasons for implicating them as bogus.

quote: Hello buzsaw, I agree that it is a reasonable premise. I have not read Moller's book, but I have read some pretty good arguments that the literature regarding Abraham's Ur was actually referring to Urfa; a city not far from Haran. At the very least, I (for one) would be very much interested in following any discussion (pro or con) on the matter. Amlodhi

I already explained my reasons. The ridiculous mishandling of Egyptian history is enough to distrust the book on any level. I said that in Message 13 and offered to discuss it in another thread. You insisted that it should be discussed in this thread.
And since I explained the situation AGAIN in Message 25 I really don't see why you are asking now.

I have studied quite a bit about Abraham, how he started out in Ur and traveled the whole furtile cresent around to Egypt and them back up to his final destination in Isreal. He was a very well educated person. Back then he would have been considered a priest, but he would have learned all knowledge known at that time. There was a lot of error mixed in with the Chaldean knowledge, so God wanted to purify a people onto Himself and Abraham was choosen. The Hebrews were to be a people seperated onto God, to be a testimony to all the nation of the truth.
Most of the history of this area does go back 100 years. It would be wonderful if the area were secure enough so that the archeologists could get in there and do research. But the only way to study the area is to take students in there during the summer. Needless to say, no professor in his right mind is going to take a group of students into that part of the world right now. It looks like about the best we can do right now is to secure the area to keep the treasure hunters out. They do not document anything and any artifacts they find lose their context and are greatly depreciated in value because of that. I do not have any hope for any serious studys to be done in this area untell the 1000 year reign of Christ, when I think that information will be greatly increased.

Come on guys, look at the photo, it took some pretty advanced people to put those bricks together and build that building. It would be a impressive building project today to put together a structure like that. I think we can be confident that this was indeed where Abraham was from. Later on the chaldeans became a part of the Babylon empire. That is when Daniel enters into the story.
