I was just reading about Steve Jobs and it struck me what his sister said during her eulogy:
"She concluded her eulogy by sharing Jobs’ final moments, which were spent staring lovingly at his family, and his final three monosyllabic words as he stared into the distance past their shoulders: OH WOW. OH WOW. OH WOW."
As a Roman Catholic I believe in life after death in an existence that is too wonderful to actually know.
I wonder, if and what effect , these last words of Jobs had on the memembers of this Forum

On this one? None whatsoever, save that I'm heartened when any human being avoids dying in pain or discomfort.
And I'm surprised that it would have an effect on you. Regardless of what you may believe about the existence of an afterlife:
1) You can't believe that Steve Jobs was seeing heaven, because he rejected the divinity and salvation of Christ and therefore under your church's doctrine was destined for Hell, and
2) The notion that the living - even the only barely living - can peer into God's realm of the afterlife is a deeply occult and therefore anti-Catholic doctrine.
Probably what was happening is that Jobs was experiencing anoxic euphoria as a result of respiratory arrest (his actual cause of death.) It's nice, I guess, to believe that Jobs was "crossing over" into a blessed Hereafter, but I don't understand how you reconcile that with your faith.

Oh Shucks Oh Shucks Oh Shucks
As a Christian, even if the story were true, it would have no effect what so ever.
I cannot even imagine how anyone could see that as any evidence of heaven or an afterlife.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

"OH WOW."
I'm not sure how those words can convey deep religious significance. Is the meaning somehow altered by the fact that his life was ending at the moment?
To be perfectly frank, given what we know about brain and body processes at the end of life, I don't see how magically peering into a "realm" of which we are totally ignorant and which is supported by no evidence at the moment just before death as his brain and body functions shut down is a more likely explanation than that he simply felt a sense of euphoria or pain, possibly with some degree of hallucination, as is proven to be common when the brain begins to shut down.
Why would those simple, utterly vague words convey any significant meaning to me? He didn't describe anything. It's hard to choose a pair of words that convey less information than "OH WOW."

"Oh wow! Oh wow! Oh wow!" is precisely what I would say after my hip surgery when I was in great pain but there were children in the room.

Know one knows what Mr. Jobs meant. I have been at the bedside of the sick and dying and can say first hand that it is very sobering indeed to actually hear the last words a person will utter.
I hope he did go in peace.

Under the Church's doctrine one can turn to God at any time. So it not necessarily true that he was destined for Hell.
Whatever God wants can happen. We as catholics believe in appearances by the Blessed Mother for example Fatima. We don't judge God by natural standards.
I am not saying Jobs saw heaven, I am just saying that these words gave me comfort, based upon my faith.
It to me just seemed as his sister described it that he was at peace. I hope that is true and he died at peace.

Like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep and not screaming in terror like the other people in the car he was driving.

It's conceivable that he felt an overwhelming sense of euphoria as his body shut down. It's impossible for us to know what he really felt, but I'm sure we all hope he died peacefully, as opposed to in pain.

I think it must be galling to come up with a fantastic idea just seconds before your own death.

So, you admit you have no idea what he was talking about, but his words give you comfort?
Strange.

Whatever God wants can happen.
/thread

The above ontological example models the zero premise to BB theory. It does so by applying the relative uniformity assumption that the alleged zero event eventually ontologically progressed from the compressed alleged sub-microscopic chaos to bloom/expand into all of the present observable order, more than it models the Biblical record evidence for the existence of Jehovah, the maximal Biblical god designer.
-Attributed to Buzsaw Message 53
Moreover that view is a blatantly anti-relativistic one. I'm rather inclined to think that space being relative to time and time relative to location should make such a naive hankering to pin-point an ultimate origin of anything, an aspiration that is not even wrong.
Well, Larni, let's say I much better know what I don't want to say than how exactly say what I do.

I hope that is true and he died at peace.
Is that a euphemism for "found god"? What do you mean by "at peace"?
He died. Whoopee. Happens every day to approx 150,000 people. He was no more special than any of the others.

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts

I have found myself calling out, "OH WOW. OH WOW. OH WOW."
But it was the petit mort, not the big one.
Pretty big, though.
