not at all I guess this is what I get for being sarcastic about liberals and the british. sorry for the bad joke here is another.
I should know that double standard by now, liberals and the british are allowed to be sarcastic, but American Moderates are not.

Moderator Comment
Not mentioning anyone by name, but what seems to me as the tongue-in-cheek nature of some comments may have been taken seriously by some. This is a humor thread, please look for the humor in what anyone says.

Immaculate preconception
quote:
A new law was signed by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and went into effect on Thursday that has abortion advocates up in arms. The new law, titled Women’s Health and Safety Act deems a woman pregnant 2 weeks before conception.
I was laughing until I realized that I wasn't reading the Onion...and then I really laughed...and then I felt sad.

As usually, with these "omg look what they said" things, I'm just left wondering what they actually really said....

Re: Immaculate preconception
Research is easy.
quote:
The law defines pregnancy in a way that bans abortion two weeks before the other seven states who have similar laws. It calculates gestational age starting with the first day of the last menstrual period rather than the date of conception.

Or how about the text of the act itself.

Letting others do it for you is easier.
Or how about the text of the act itself.
Yeah, that's what I was wondering about. It doesn't "states 'pregnancy begins two weeks before conception'". But we already know you don't really have to be that accurate when you're bashing the Right.

Re: Immaculate preconception
But the quote didn't say that the bill states that pregnancy begins two weeks before conception. It says that it deems a woman pregnant two weeks before conception. Which apparently it does, in some cases. The bill states:
Gestational age means the age of the unborn child as calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period of the pregnant woman.
This means that in some (indeed most) cases the fetus will be legally deemed to have existed before it was actually conceived.
If you go on reading the bill, you'll see that their definition of "informed consent" to an abortion involves a doctor telling the pregnant woman this "gestational age", rather than, for example, the actual age ... so their idea of what it means to be "informed" is also questionable.
Anyway, back to the humor ...
