This is hardly a new phenomenon, the 1990s comedy 'Drop the Dead Donkey" wonderfully satirized this side of the media with their character 'Damien Day'. Still, we see it all over the place. I remember during Katrina seeing an American reporter in a canoe in a flooded area, during the report somebody simply walks past them in the three inches of water. Likewise, dozens of reporters were getting blown all over the place as passerbys simply walked around without problem.So yes, this confirms what we already knew: the media tries to sensationalize its reports in an effort to sell papers/advertising space what have you. Freelance photographers might manufacture images so that news agencies will buy the photographs.
