Sorry if this has been discussed already, but some forums have an ignore button so that you dont see posts by certain users. Just wondering if this has been considered for this forum.
Thanks.

As tempting as it can seem, IMHO the ability to ignore certain users runs against the ethos of the site.

You could always simply...y'know...ignore posts.
IMO, an ignore button is similar to an ad hominem.
You are 'arguing' against the person and not their arguments.

An ignore button is on the todo list, but there's no schedule at the current time. If there were a lot of demand for it I'd probably implement it sooner rather than later. I understand the comments about it not being a good EvC Forum feature, but it is a common discussion board feature, so it's on my list of future dBoard features.

Copy Ability
When we hover over the name of a thread, message or msg number; we can see the msg, thread, and forum numbers. Unfortunately we or at least I am unable highlight the numbers to copy them into a msg. If that is universal, I feel it would be handy if we could copy those numbers. It would make it easier to use the numbers when references post or threads in posts.
Thanks
PD

Re: Copy Ability
You have no idea how much I want to be able to do this, but it isn't easy to do. Because of security concerns browsers are no longer able to copy text to the clipboard, so you would have to highlight the number and hit Ctrl-C yourself, but this isn't possible with the way hoverboxes are currently implemented.
I had a solution implemented a couple years ago using Flash capabilities, but then new browser versions were introduced that closed that security hole. There are new Flash capabilities I could take advantage of, but the browsers will close those off, too, so there's no point. I continue to explore possibilities, and enhancing hoverbox capabilities is one of them.
It might seem that copying *to* the clipboard (as opposed to from) shouldn't be a security issue, but once copying to the clipboard is possible then shenanigans might be accomplished by instructing the (potentially naive) user to perform the paste operation.

..., but some forums have an ignore button so that you dont see posts by certain users.
I manage to ignore some users, and I don't need an ignore button for that.
In fact, an ignore button would not help. For every time Markuze posts, he has created a new login identity that would have evaded the ignore button.

I don't think ignore buttons are necessary, but you might as well have it as a feature.
I'd want to have a "blacklist managment" section in my profile, where I could add/remove members from there in addition to buttons somewhere... wait, where would the button be? Not on every post I hope? Just on the particular members profile or something?
Also, I think there should be some indication that your post has been ignored, like how I can "acknowledge" a post without replying to it. You don't want people wondering if their posts has been read or not and not knowing that its just being ignored.

It's one of the board features I believe this board benefits from not having.

Ignore Me
Also, I think there should be some indication that your post has been ignored, like how I can "acknowledge" a post without replying to it. You don't want people wondering if their posts has been read or not and not knowing that its just being ignored.
This assumes your message is in reply to one of mine. In an electronic "ignore" list I wouldn't see anything you write to anyone including a reply to one of my posts.
Then again, I'm not sure if it matters whether you know you are being officially "ignored" or if you just are not getting a responce.
A better way for me to put that - I'm not sure it matters if you're being ignored because of my electronic listing or if you're being ignored by my not reading your stuff or if I just didn't bother to read/respond to your one message.

What, a creationist having trouble ignoring things? I thought it came naturally to you guys. Here's a tip: if there's a poster you want to pay no attention to, just pretend he's the fossil record.

Re: Ignore Me
Point taken.
But, lets say somebody writes something retarded and then I respond telling them how retarded they are and then they add me to their ignore list. I might be wondering if they just hadn't seen my reply yet. Maybe I'd reply again. If I saw that they were now ignoring me, then I wouldn't waste my time anymore.

Re: Ignore Me
But, CS, doncha see? That's the beauty of not having notification. You gotta start thinking sinister, CS.
I can get an additional thrill knowing the poor fool I put on "ignore" is spinning his wheels trying to get to me with no avail. And just about the time he figures it out I take him off "ignore," send him a few zingers, put him back on "ignore" and smile blissfully knowing I've just sent him into another tizzy!
I change my mind: Hey, Percy, I like this "ignore" thing! When can I start?

How do you acknowledge someones post?
When someone answers one of your messages, and you haven't answered their answer, you will see at the bottom of their post a thing saying You have not yet responded. Click on that to acknowledge their post. You can practice on mine.
