But that's not what the system of true Christian morality is predicated on.......it's predicated on love.
So is atheist morality.

That's the christian love that drove god to send bears to rip children to pieces?

But nihilism isn't the logical conclusion.
It is under uncivilized conditions.........
Altruism is. If there's no universal benificent force watching over us, it makes it all the more imperative that we do what good we can, ourselves.
This is ridiculous......there's no such thing as "good". Only pain and pleasure. If your pleasure causes others pain, what concern is that of yours?

Re: Back Away From the Strawman
After browsing through this "debate", and seeing Rusty's responses, perhaps we best leave alone his faith in God watching Rusty's moral behavior, and just hopefully get him to agree that God would look down on rape and murder. Truly, this gentleman seems to need an externalization of moral instinct.

Crash, there's no such thing as love, from a purely logical stand point.......so don't give me that drivel.
Charles, we are speaking of the basis of morality.......what do bears and children have to do with it?

Oh? I'd love to see that logical syllogism. By all means, share it with me. Don't forget to show your work.

well where does your christian morality come from? your godhead right?
He's clearly not a loving creature - so why would his laws be based on love.

It's plenty of my concern, because I have love for them. Duh.

Well, no, they don't. I mean, there are primate criminals, I suppose, but most primate societies are predicated on fair play and group benefit. Just like ours.
Right......because of purely selfish purposes.
That is, of course, unless you're the alpha male......in which case, there is no benefit to not doing whatever the hell you want. Which is why silverback gorillas mate by pinning down females and copulating with them..........and that's why young, strong lions chase away older lions who are interested in their pride......of course, if humans did such, these would be called "rape" and "murder".

Nice editing job, but what you've just expressed here is that you don't cause pain to the ones you love because their pain is your pain......again, it's purely selfish.

Rusty, do you perhaps work in a movie theatre? You sure seem to be awfully good at this "projection" stuff.

How are they being intellectually dishonest? Why does everything need an explanation? Atheists are happy claiming "I don't know". Somehow, you seem to need an answer, ergo the existence of God.
But to say "I don know" makes you an agnostic, not an atheist.
I think it's telling that many "atheists" don't even know enough to know that they're not really atheists......

I thought we were talking about atheism. How did we get to anarchy? Could we please slow down and try to get Rusty to put the goalposts back where they were?
regards,
Esteban Hambre

How could love exist logically? Or, rather, how could illogical love exist? You don't love some woman you just met at a bar........how could you, you just met her? So, if she turns you on, why not drug her and rape her, if you could somehow be sure you'd get away with it?

Ugh, well atheist means a lack of belief in a god. A, without, you know? So in that sense an agnostic who declares there is no good positive proof in a god to make me believe is also atheistic.
That being said, there are many differing flavors of agnosticism and atheism. I would suggest you actually listen to what some will say here regarding their belief, or lack thereof.
I am agnostic. I also feel that there is no good evidence to support the existence of God. That makes me atheistic as well.
